Director of Group Sales

The Director of Group Sales is responsible for directing, coordinating, training and supervising the National Sales Managers and Executive Meeting Managers in all activities, including direct sales efforts, follow-up and proper sales administration. The Director of Group Sales will have a group sales revenue quota and handle a market for the resort, and is responsible for the resorts group revenue quota. This includes growing existing accounts and generating new business to ensure that Room revenues and Catering revenues meet or exceed budget in order to maximize revenue and profits, and to improve the resort’s performance in the marketplace.

The Director of Group Sales will report to the Director of Sales and Marketing, and will play an instrumental role in the development of group revenue for Fairmont Grand Del Mar.

What You Will Be Doing
Supervise, administer and ensure timely completion of all activities of the group sales team.
Responsible for overall group sales revenue targets.
Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the resort.
Develop a complete knowledge of company group sales policies and S.O.P.’s, and ensure knowledge of and adherence to those policies by the group sales team.
Develop and maintain market awareness to ensure ability to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies to meet or exceed set goals.
Operate group sales within established sales expense budget.
Initiate and follow up on all leads.
Maintain and participate in an active sales solicitation program.
Develop and maintain group sales revenue to achieve and exceed monthly and annual sales quota on an individual basis and as a department.
Identify and close group sales on a local, regional and national market level, and assist the group sales managers in identifying new accounts within their market.
Penetrate and saturate prospective and existing customer organizations for effective multi-department selling.
Take initiative to cultivate all lead sources to generate new and incremental business.
Qualify leads and prospects gained from cold calls, sales blitzes, Hotel Representations firms and other sources.
Network with prospects to uncover other decision makers for direct referrals.
Assisting in the hiring and training of all Group Sales Managers.

Your Experience And Skills Include
Minimum education requires a Bachelor’s degree
Minimum 2-4 years related job experience required. Resort experience preferred
Public relations and/or media experience a plus
Requires high energy, passion and drive
Must be proactive, self-sufficient and a detail-oriented self-starter
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including creative copywriting, excellent attention to detail, and strong proofreading
Knowledge of and experience in AP Style and SEO writing
Ability to make politically appropriate decisions in quick and competent manner to protect The Grand Del Mar brand, as it relates to all content, tone, grammar and diplomacy
Ability to deal well with stress and difficult situations where desired results and outcomes must be achieved
Strong computer skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat and photo manipulation
Broad understanding of the hotel sales and marketing function, as well as other hotel developments, departmental needs and revenue opportunities
Strong management, organizational, and presentation skills required
